Biography
Sarah is passionate about public service and guiding families through the legal process. She leverages her courtroom experience and training in alternative dispute resolution methods to provide holistic solutions to her clients. Sarah's goal is to empower the unheard and oppressed and give them a voice.
Sarah is an experienced litigator, and uses her experience in the courtroom to provide clients with the information they need to make informed decisions. Sarah is also trained in collaborative law and mediation, and uses this background to provide solutions that best fit each client's needs. Sarah founded Barnhill Family Law in the hopes of providing solutions that place family considerations first, taking into account the unique aspects of each family unit's dynamic. She seeks to provide compassionate representation to individuals in all stages of family law cases.
Sarah grew up in a small town in Mississippi and moved to Omaha after her law school graduation. She graduated from Mississippi State University with a B.A. in Criminology, where she focused her studies and research on the family dynamic’s impact on crime and society. This experience inspired her determination to assist families in the court system. Sarah graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law with honors. During law school, Sarah participated in public interest externships, the MacArthur Justice Clinic and Criminal Appeals Clinic, and was a competing member of the Trial Advocacy Board. As a member of the Criminal Appeals Clinic, Sarah was chosen based on her advocacy skills to argue an appeal before the Mississippi Court of Appeals. After law school, she continued to pursue opportunities in public interest law, practicing Immigration Law for two years before focusing her efforts on family law. In 2023 and 2024, Sarah was selected as a Great Plains Rising Star, an award reserved for only 2.5% of the lawyers in the state.
Prior to opening Barnhill Family Law, Sarah practiced family law with a focus on cases involving domestic abuse. As a family law attorney, she has litigated cases involving financial abuse, emotional abuse, domestic violence, and other issues involving domestic abuse, and seeks to provide her clients with the safety and support they need when moving through the justice system.
In addition to her work at Barnhill Family Law, Sarah has joined efforts with financial professionals to present at monthly events designed to provide women with the legal and financial knowledge they need to succeed and protect themselves in all stages of life. She has presented on legal topics covering the probate process, divorce and custody proceedings, business formation, and estate planning among other specialized family law considerations. She continues to seek opportunities to provide critical information to those who may not otherwise seek advice or legal aid. Sarah is a member of the Nebraska State Bar Association, Omaha Bar Association, and the Sarpy County Bar Association.
When she is not practicing law, Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters, and pets. She loves good music, traveling, and home improvement projects.
